Listen up people. As you may know, skin care is my number one area of expertise and I pride myself in having beautiful and soft skin. However, like most great things, my skin is not natural. A couple of years ago I was a walking teen acne ad. Okay… it wasn’t that bad BUT I did have plenty of white heads and ance scars. As my love for YouTube progressed, so did my knowledge of skincare. Thanks to amazing youtubers like Rachel Talbott and dermTVdotcom with Dr. Neal Schultz, I’m basically a licensed dermatologist without the debt and hardships of med school. If you were to look in my massive makeup collection you may (or may not) be surprised to find that I do not own a single bottle of foundation, BB cream, or tinted moisturizer. That’s because I believe its better to invest in great skincare products that’ll give you a flawless complexion than spending $20-$40 on a bottle of foundation that will just clog you pores even more. Over the years I’ve found so much pleasure in helping my friends and family with all of their skin problems and I’m proud to say I’ve discovered a few products that I absolutely SWEAR by…and remember, these are my secrets so shhhh!
I’m a sucker for a cool new gadget, especially one that has high promises! Although on the pricier side, I think the Clarisonic is one of the best, if not the most important, aspect of my skin care routine. I started using the Clarisonic in November of 2013 when my skin was still a mess and three years later I still love it! The Clarisonic is a skin cleansing brush that cleans the skin 6x better than cleaning the skin by hand! There’s no point in piling on a bunch of skin care products if your base isn’t clean SO GET CLEAN! I currently have the Clarisonic Mia 2 but any model is fine. It’s mostly about what brush head you use (which needs to be changed every three months). My favorite is the sensitive brush head. The real secret though is consistency! I use mine every night but you can customize it to your own skincare routine. If I could go back I would have gotten mine personally engraved with my initials when I bought it. Yes, I love it that much.
Talk about tough love. Retin-A and I have had a complicated relationship, but now that we understand each other, our love is better than ever! For those of you who don’t speak science, Retin-A is basically a magical cream with a lot of Vitamin A that makes your skin exfoliate super quickly to let out the beautiful baby skin that is underneath! WOW! MAGIC?! Yes, but it comes with a price. If used correctly, you will see quick and fantastic results. If used incorrectly, your skin will be itchy, red, flaky, and super sensitive.
How to use Retin-A: use only at night, apply a TINY amount to your bad areas fifteen minutes AFTER your moisturizer of choice has fully absorbed (or I promise you your skin will flake like crazy), start off using it every 2-3 days and if you skin can handle it maybe you could start to use it everyday but even I don’t.
DISCLAIMER: This stuff is prescription only. But of course, drugs are easily obtained in Mexico so my mom got me some on her last trip.
3) Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask
Did you know charcoal is used to cure people with alcohol poisoning?! Believe it or not, charcoal is actually great at absorbing all of the toxins and yucky junk that is hiding in your pores. I used to use this mask everyday after the shower and it works wonders on my skin. After countless repurchases I still use it on a regular basis and force all of my friends to use/buy it. If you’re just starting out on your face mask collection, this charcoal mask is the way to go!
4) Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
This stuff is the SHIT. A small dot of this pink smelly miracle will conquer any pimple or blemish you may have! It’s not great for acne scars (retin-A is) but its amazing for those nasty pimples that always seem to appear right before a big event! I love this stuff! Not much else to say other than it works and its amazing. As Mario says, “you should let me love you”. Mario, I do.
DO NOT shake, simply insert q-tip and apply to blemish
