It was one of my new year’s resolutions to start doing more fun things on the weekends and get out of my comfort zone a little. After a year of disgusting frat parties as the only source of entertainment I really felt myself falling into a rut. Yes, these parties were a great way to spend my freshman year of college and I’m glad I can say I’ve had my fun, but I’m ready to grow up and try new things! What started as a couple of boring nights in turned into a full out resentment against Davis,CA. This is nothing like the vibrant Los Angeles I am used to and I was starting to think Davis was no longer where I belong. However, I knew I was in love with this cute town once before and I knew I could do it again, so recently I’ve been making more of an effort to find things to do and places to go that genuinely make me happy!
I had been meaning to go to the new art museum that UC Davis opened a couple months ago, and finally with the help of one of my besties (and photographer), Brian, I FINALLY got myself out the door and enjoyed a night at the museum. The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art opened November this year and has some of the coolest exhibits I’ve ever seen-most of them produced by UC Davis student and alumni! I’m a huge fan of contemporary art so this museum was right up my alley. If you’ve ever been to The Broad in Los Angeles and enjoyed it you’ll probably love the Manetti Shrem too!
For my outfit I went with something a little more edgy which I felt matched the overall contemporary art vibe. This look its super simple and the beauty lies in the details. A simple gray turtle neck and black jeans was easily dressed up with a fun leather jacket, quick messy bun, and a swipe of red lipstick! Brian and I had so much fun at the museum and I’m super excited to go back again when the weather is nicer and I can wear a dress and jean jacket instead.
My mission to find fun things to do in Davis has been extremely successful so far! I’ve already been to a school play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which is something I would have never thought I would be doing on a Friday night, but it turned out to be SO funny and super entertaining! I also recently went to an acapella show featuring the Lounge Lizards and some of the other UC Davis singing groups and I don’t think I’ve ever been more blown away in my life. It was like Pitch Perfect in person.
I’m always looking for more fun things to do in Davis, Sacramento, and the other nearby cities! If you have any recommendations please leave them in the comments below! Maybe we can even go together 😉
